What is tooth extraction?

  • Sometimes a tooth is in such a bad state that it can no longer be cured. In this case, the dentist has to pull it out.
  • The dentist will use special instruments to gently remove the bad tooth so that it doesn't cause any more problems.
  • Before the tooth extraction, you'll be given an anaesthetic that numbs the area, so you won't feel any pain, just a little pressure.

Why is tooth extraction important?

What happens during tooth extraction?

  • Examination – including 3D X-rays if needed: First, we assess the position of the wisdom tooth in your mouth. We explain the procedure in detail and answer all your questions.
  • Local anaesthesia is used to numb the area completely, making the procedure itself painless. You may feel a slight pressure or tension, but no pain.
  • We remove the tooth gently: the tooth is carefully removed with modern instruments. Our aim is to cause as little trauma as possible and to leave the surrounding tissue intact.
  • Check the wound and treat it professionally: after the tooth has come out, clean the wound, stitch it up if necessary and put a sterile gauze pad over it. Then we will give you all the important advice on what to do and how to heal.
  • We take care of you after the procedure: at the end of the treatment, we will provide you with a written, detailed step-by-step guide to help you recover. We also provide a soft-bristled toothbrush for the first few days. We'll also contact you by email the next day to check on your wellbeing, and if you have any questions, we'll answer them quickly and helpfully.

Frequently asked questions about tooth extraction

Thanks to modern anaesthetic techniques and an anaesthetic that is more effective than lidocaine, tooth extraction is completely painless.

Most patients are completely symptom-free within a few days after tooth extraction and only take 2-3 painkillers in total. However, heavy physical activity should be avoided for 1 week after tooth extraction.

Not always. If you're in pain, we can help you get rid of it, so you might as well have your teeth pulled the first time. A preliminary consultation helps build trust between doctor and patient and helps determine the best treatment plan for you. The decision is in your hands.

Local anaesthesia is used, but it is also possible to use a guided anaesthetic, so that the entire lower jaw, the front of the face and the palate can be completely anaesthetised if necessary.
