What happens during treatment?

  • Thorough examination and X-ray: We will examine the tooth and take an X-ray if necessary to see the extent of the damage. This will allow us to decide whether an inlay (a filling that fits inside the tooth) or an onlay (a filling that also replaces the tip of the tooth) is needed.
  • Preparation and impression taking: the cavity of the tooth is removed and the tooth is prepared to receive the filling. Then an impression is taken and sent to the dental lab - where the perfectly fitting inlay is made.
  • Temporary filling for comfort: until the final filling is ready (usually 1 week), the tooth is sealed with a temporary filling to prevent sensitivity or damage.
  • Insert gluing and final fitting: next, we remove the temporary filling and glue the final insert. Then we check the bite and fit to make sure it feels comfortable and natural.
